The Stairway
Digital Print
13" x 13"
This work titled The Stairway by Julia Taugner is a reference to
the path toward greater understanding of oneself and the world.
Many teachings refer to man's need to awaken.
In this image the closed eyes refer to the artist's state of sleep;
her lack of understanding. The open eyes refer to her wish to awaken,
and to move up the stairway from a state of sleep to a state of greater consciousness.
This work is about the wish to know the truth about oneself and the truth about the world;
to break through illusions and dreams.
It is one of a series on the topic of the artist's search.
The photomontage is created from scans of a variety of materials:
papers and gauze, scraps of film from a copy camera, fragments of found images, and photographs of the artist.
These were combined with linear elements and assembled into layers in Adobe Photoshop.
The image has been printed with an Epson inkjet printer using archival inks and paper.
