Tina Newberry

Animal Rights Activist
Oil on Panel
16" x 16"

This work titled Animal Rights Activist by Tina Newberry
started as one thing and became another.
Now it is a homage to the little black cat at the bottom who dreams of
Animal Rights long before they became a reality.
Libby Flounder, the beloved cat, has since died so as far as the painter is concerned,
she is now the star of the double self portrait.

It is very likely that Libby had no idea how much Tina loves
American history nor of her struggle to find ways to implant it in her paintings.
So here is the painter painting in her studio (the reflection in the mirror) and
watching Libby dream of her "mother" as a Founding Father who has googled "cat" and
found that there is a need to contemplate some rules regarding their care and well being.

The sad truth remains that Libby Flounder only lives on in this painting and in dreams.
That describes almost the entire reason why Tina paints, so there is the consolation.
