Hope
Reverse Painting on Glass
28” x 18”  |  2015

PROCESS

“In reverse painting on plexiglas, the viewer sees the painting from the back side. I use tape to keep some areas unpainted, then apply thin layers of acrylic paint, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next one. After several layers, the tape is removed and more paint applied. The final coating is thicker. When the painting is turned over, light filters through the layers, creating a sense of depth. Mounting the plexiglas an inch away from the wall creates another layer of depth. This piece is inspired by the Gerhard Richter quote: ” Art is the highest form of hope.”
