“While planning Request for Food, I had to study the building structures of various fast food restaurants in order to manipulate and warp them into unrecognizable forms. Before I began the painting process, I drew a series of rough sketches to map out my composition. While drawing I focused on the shapes, positions and arrangements of the buildings and other subjects in order to achieve a surrealistic atmosphere and collage-like feel to the painting. When I was satisfied with the final sketch, I was ready to start painting on the canvas. During the beginning stages of painting, I didn’t focus heavily on small details, but on shapes and forms. Since acrylic paint dries quickly, I had the advantage of layering colors to gradually create value and tones.”
