33 Contemporary Gallery proudly presents The Space Between Light and Shadow, a powerful new solo exhibition by artist and gallery director Sergio Gomez, opening December 5, 2025 in Coconut Creek, Florida. Presented in alignment with Art Basel Miami Week, this exhibition invites viewers into a contemplative encounter where light and darkness converge to reveal something deeper—hope, presence, and quiet transcendence.
EXHIBITION OVERVIEW
At the heart of The Space Between Light and Shadow is an exploration of light not simply as illumination, but as a spiritual and generative force. Through large-scale paintings and a groundbreaking augmented-reality component, Gomez expands the traditional boundaries of painting, allowing viewers to use their phones to uncover hidden digital layers—movement, sound, and atmospheric details invisible to the naked eye.
FEATURED WORKS
A central highlight of the exhibition is In the Beginning…, a monumental 7-foot painting inspired by Genesis: “Let there be light.” In this work, Gomez departs from his signature figurative style, allowing light itself to embody presence, creation, and divine authority. A burst of radiance breaks through an expanse of darkness, evoking the very first separation between shadow and illumination, chaos and order. The result is both cosmic and deeply personal—a visual meditation on creation, faith, and the human longing for light.
Also featured is a new four-painting series, Stations of the Nativity—The Annunciation, The Star, The Manger, and The Mother & Child. Painted in the tradition of early Renaissance altarpieces, each large-scale 42 x 72 inch work reflects themes of birth, vulnerability, and spiritual nearness during the holiday season.
Additional works will also be on view, expanding the exhibition’s exploration of light as metaphor, mystery, and revelation.
